Chris and I had a wonderful weekend getaway. We just drove down to Salt Lake, stayed downtown and shopped, ate, slept in, swam! It was bliss. We headed a little farther south to hit up Ikea to pick up wardrobes for the girls' room and ate at Cubby's (above)--a place we always have to eat at when in Utah. For the tri-tip salad and those floors. The rest of the week has been kind of low-key, too. Every year, at the beginning of October, the schools in our area are out for 1-2 weeks for potato harvest--really! A lot of the students work the family farms (or farms of friends) to harvest all those Idaho potatoes you hear about. Those students that don't work the harvest, like Greta and our family, still have school off. So it's been a nice week around here to spend as a family and Greta has had a lot of input on her room we're working on for the One Room Challenge. Like, she really wants a picture of a horse in it (she approved this print that I really love, too!) and she's already claimed the top bunk. We'll be building the bunks this weeks so check out the chrislovesjulia Instagram story over the next few days for live updates.
Other fun things this week!
I'm continually amazed at the talent on Etsy. These framed paper doll portraits are my favorite find over there this week. I want to order some for my family and then for everyone I know, too.
A strong case for yellow kitchen cabinets.
I want to cozy up our deck for fall, especially since we'll likely extend our Halloween party to the outdoors. I'm eyeing this Pottery Barn buffalo check throw that's just $39! (Of course we'll use it indoors, too.)
Speaking of Buffalo Check, did you see Kate Arends' (of Wit and Delight) mudroom floor? She shared a sneak peek on instagram. She created it herself using FLOR squares! How genius is that!?
The sweetest DIY yarn pumpkin garland.
The only thing I've ordered for the girls' room so far are these sconces from West Elm that we'll use as lamps in each of their bunks. But we're trying to figure out where the switch(es) will go. On one hand, it would be nice for each of them to have access to a lamp that they can turn on or off if they are reading, but is Faye ready for the responsibility that comes with a light switch!? (haha)
This infographic about the updated FTC endorsement guidelines (something every blogger/influencer has to abide by) was so thorough, clear and easy to follow and understand.
This commercial made me cry:
This pillow covered with yellow pom poms has to find a way into the girls room.
Hope you all have a great weekend. Hope to see you over on Instagram to follow great bunk build weekend!
Love Casual Friday (both posts and not working). I have those sconces from the Elm in my hallways and they are so lovely.
Def put a switch by the sconce...you'll want it down the road. Just be prepared to take the bulb out until she's old enough to use the switch responsibly. ;) I speak from experience... :)
Great round up! Those paper doll Etsy families are so cool. I got one of these adorable family portraits, also found on Etsy:

She is so talented. As so many Etsy artists are!
Thanks for all the fun inspiration!
Oh my gosh...I never thought an Ikea commercial would make me cry!? My "baby" is 12 and really struggling with the idea of leaving his childhood behind right now and becoming a teenager. I just want to freeze time even while I know that it's my job to help him move forward. ? I hope I can help him hold onto the little boy inside as long as possible... I know that I'll never stop looking at him that way!??❤️❤️
??? crying like a baby. :(
Hi Julia! Thanks again for getting back with me about your paint colors. One more quick question...how do you like Faye''s ceiling light? May I ask where you got Greta's ceiling light from?
Do you like one light better over the other? I'm considering one for my daughters room. Thank you!
Your Casual Friday posts are my favorite! And yes, that commercial brought on allllll the tears... So sweet!!
That boy!!!!!?????
I just bought this print of a horse! Was inspired by the art in your basement.

My son is 19 and this is me to a T.
I cried after I dropped him off at his first semester of University and then proceeded to get Olive Garden's slice of pumpkin cheesecake and milk. THEY do grow up fast, so hug them lots and kiss their cheeks everyday!!!
Oh my!! That commercial!!! My guy is only 2.5 (born the day after Faye) and this is ME in like 20 years. Cue all the tears!
I look forward to your causal Fridays, a fun way to wrap up the week. :) But this week kind of hit home with that Ikea video (I cried too). My son is only 2.5 years old but I have always felt the time slipping so fast. Add to that that he is half French/ half American and speaks both French and English, with a mess of floppy dark blonde hair... I'm a mess. Merci for sharing it. :*) Have a wonderful weekend!
