I received the sweetest gift of all from my talented friend, Kim, last week. A small custom portrait of our Charly-girl. I have always loved her pet portraits, and I feel so honored to have our own now. It looks just like her! What she didn't know when sending it is, it arrived on such a timely day. We found out some difficult news about Charly the same day. When we took her into the vet for routine vacccinations, they discovered from an old shot record that she is 9 years old, not 7 like we had thought. When we adopted her in 2013, we were told she was 3, but her shot record that was just uncovered from 2012 says that she was 4 then, making her 9 now. Considering her breed has a 10 year life expectancy (12 is generous) broke our hearts over and over. No matter how we look at it, it feels like we just lost two years with her. The good news is, she is so healthy. She is doing great. She's happy. She's much more fit than when we first got her. And we are trying to focus on that and not think about the future too much. This little painting means so much to us.
Onto some other fun things this week!
Ahh!!! Genevieve Gorder (who doesn't love her?!) came out with a collection with The Land of Nod and there are so many great pieces. The navy buffalo check. The reversible quilts. The tassel sheets. Slow. clap. Check it all out here.
I love finding new-to-me DIY couples! I'm loving following @beginninginthemiddle. So many great before and afters.
These are always a no-fail baby shower gift. So cute! (or in a grouping of 8 here or the full set here)
I love this idea of framing wallpaper. It's such a great way to pack a punch on a budget. I imagine using pretty wrapping paper or fabric would look just as charming.
Welp, I guess it's time to update my doormat.
We've been watch ABSTRACT on Netflix and loving it! Each episode shows a different kind of designer or artist and then goes on to blow your mind showing how they work and conceptualize ideas. It's inspiring and truly amazing. From, the very first episode, I was hooked. If you are into art or design at all--please tell me you've checked it out!
Very intrigued by this "two part rug" that's completely and easily washable and indoor/outdoor and stain resistant AND under $100. Is it too good to be true? (Lots of really pretty options here)
In my stories this week, I showed you 10 really great maternity pieces I ordered from this shop that was having a 50% off sale. And it looks like it's still going on! I literally saved, $115! Nothing I bought was over $13. (They have a bunch of other cute non-maternity, kids and men's stuff, too.)
Hope you all have a great weekend! We're busy working in the girls' bathroom and can't wait to give you a big ol' update on it soon.
Is that a new mirror I see in your hallway?!?!? Do share your source! I'm looking for something round that size that doesn't have brass trim. Thanks!
We actually just bounced it around from another room in the house. It's from right here!
Aww Charly. I can only imagine what a blow that news must have been. I bet that girl lives the happiest life with you all! Here's to another wonderful couple of years!
Hi c&j!! Feels so weird to comment about something so personal, but here we go. My boyfriend and I lost our dog in January (not what you want to hear I know, but keep reading) and we were done for--not kidding I cried daily for about 5 mos. I know y'all chose to adopt your dog and thats the route we chose for our next dog, who we just got 3 days ago. She's 2, but I can tell you now with what we went through recently, if we thought she was 4, we wouldn't have gotten her. We didn't want to reexperience heartbreak so soon. But then we would have missed out on a dog who is so undeniably OURS. In 3 days I can tell we are her people, and she's our dog. If I found out she was 4 tomorrow, I'd still be so grateful that she landed with us. Charly seems like a gem, I know y'all are so lucky to have her.
Thanks Julia! Love following along w/you guys, too!
Thank you for the mention of Abstract on Netflix! Take luck on the bathroom that everything goes smooth. Happy Weekend to you.
You know, I had an African Mastiff that I rescued in 2000, at age 4 or 5 and the vet told me her breed had a 10-12 year life expectancy. Given that she had been a "street dog" for probably all her life, she had bad hips, Rocky Mountain Black tick spotted fever, and was half her ideal weight, I was told I was looking at a few years with her at best. In 2012, we lost her more than 11 years after that visit. It always feels like they go too soon, but don't give up any years quite yet. It's amazing what a house full of love can do for a dog.
Will you give us an update when you receive your items from BooHoo? I've seen so many of these overseas online retailers but I'm leary of ordering. While their clothes all look super cute, most of them get terrible reviews for service and quality.
I sure will!! Just got an email yesterday that everything shipped!
I had the same question! Lots of cute-looking things, but some of the item reviews are leaving me with the feeling that the photos might be misleading. Looking forward to your review.
Oh man- that was a Friday morning workout! Thanks for posting about the sale- I managed to squeak in an order with 10 minutes to spare!☺️☺️
Every single day counts with these little (or not so little!) buddies. I can only imagine how you must have felt to have lost two years, but just think of how lucky she feels to be with your sweet family day in and day out. Love you guys.
So sorry to hear about Charly!
What is the paint color in that room? I love it!
It's called Pine Grove by Clark and Kensington
Awww that's hard to hear, as someone who has had a total of 4 Saint's (still have 2) My first lived to 12, and my second lived to 13.5, so it's not too rare! Plus the smaller Saint's (like Charley) live longer cause there is not so much stress on their hearts, etc... Hugs for Charley! :)
First, Abstract, YES! My teen son and I love the show. My kiddo is an Origami artist which sounds weird, but Origami is actually a combination of art, design, and engineering, not just paper cranes. :) The show is very inspiring for him, and it has helped me learn how to encourage him to just go for it. Creative work is a valid form of employment.
Second, I'm sorry about Charlie. I am glad she is currently in good health. That sweet spot of pet ownership when a dog is healthy, active and smart is short enough. I know this must be quite a blow. She's got a great life with more to live.
