We have lots of family coming in from out of town this month, so before Chris and I skip town ourselves tomorrow (we were invited to America's Mart in Atlanta!--will anyone else be there?), we spent yesterday finishing up the main floor bedroom at our cabin (that we actually only half painted and threw a mattress in.) and setting up another bedroom for use so that we can entertain our family here when they come. Although our a-frame is still in need of a lot of renovating, and we're in the middle of it just about everywhere--we truly believe in enjoying spaces through it all.
This is the same bedroom that we created the reading nook in, but the bed part of the bedroom you may not remember. It used to look like this:
A-frames have a lot of beams and angled ceilings and it's just a part of its charm so we're absolutely embracing it. For awhile we had the mattress set up where that cabinet is in the photo above, extending the width of the room into the reading nook, but the window (that's above that cabinet) is off-center on the wall and the door couldn't open all the way with the bed on that wall. And you couldn't really get out of bed, without hitting your head on the sloped ceiling with the bed pushed over so the door could clear. So. Much. Fun.
It only took us a handful of times sleeping here before we moved the bed on the sloped wall and it worked so much better! Here's how it looks today:
We painted all the walls the same deep blue/green color (Valspar Victorian Tapestry) that we did in the reading nook and kept the furnishings simple. Just a bed, 2 stools that we're using as nightstands and lots cozy, layered bedding.
I love the way the walnut spindle bed from Rejuvenation pops against the dark walls and adds in some warmth again. And while I have no red, oranges, yellow, rusts--nada--in our home, I'm really excited to embrace those at the cabin. It feels right here, right?
The room is a culmination of a lot of beautiful things I've been holding onto since we closed on the cabin in November--that bed, rug, nightstands that I just have to find the perfect little lamps for. (We tried wall-mounted lamps...that was awkward.) Mixed with things you probably recognize from around our home that just work better up here; those furry pillows from Target that used to live in our living room. The tassel blanket I snagged on sale last year that was practically made to lay at the bottom of this bed and just be pretty. (But also functional--the temps here can rise and fall a 40 degree difference in one day!)
There's still a little more to do in here, mainly laying hardwood flooring next month!, but we're ready for our out-of-town guests. And we'll happily sleep in the other bedrooms that don't look nearly as welcoming just so our family can get the full experience. Nothing makes me happier than introducing our friends and family to our little slice of heaven.

This is the most beautiful cabin I've ever seen. I'm dying over (and scheming for my own house) the wall color.
I’m not sure how to phrase this but are you purposely aiming to move your content to include more high end products? The bedroom is amazing and certainly includes some budget friendly items (Target pillow, cb2 light) but no one in my upper middle class Midwestern life would pay that much money for a bed, especially for a guest bedroom at a vacation home, or pay over $100 for a throw pillow! Do you feel that the quality is worth the price? Are you balancing the lower cost items with the pricier ones?
We're allllll about the balance. I love mixing in budget Target, Ikea, Thrift scores with quality items that will stand the test of time--something we're especially mindful of as we are planning on airbnb-ing this eventually and we want quality pieces.
For some reason the post on the big butcher block countertops is the last post that is showing up for me on the blog. I'm curious why you chose to paint the wood.. I like the pine (or whatever kind of wood it is), and I'm curious to see what the rest of the room looks like.
It's always nice to have a fun space set up for guests!!
If you check out the other posts to do with our cabin (just follow the cabin tag), the whole A-frame interior is pine clad, which we plan on keeping, so it's fun to have a little pocket of color. Also, only one wall was paneled with pine and the rest was drywall.

Yes, those green walls are FAB! Love the whole thing - just wish I had a room that could use that tassel blanket, but like at your house, we have NO reds. And I just don't love the other colorway as much. Great job as always!
