Our kitchen is truly the heart of our home and so I always find myself wanting to add a touch of holiday decor in there--sometimes even first! It feels easier to deck a window rather than a whole tree (although we promised the girls we'd do that this weekend!) and we reap those jolly rewards morning, noon and night!
In past years, I have hung a wreath on the range hood and decorated the open shelves, but this year I loved the idea of draping garland on each window. I used 3 of these incredibly realistic 6' faux cypress garlands from West Elm secured behind a small finish nail on the top corner of each window.
It immediately felt special. Cozier, even--like we were living in some sort of winter cottage. I wanted to make sure our kitchen remained functional and practical (ie no moving decorations just so we could eat) so I focused on merry-ing up a few other corners. Under one set of floating shelves, I put two of these paper accordion trees--a large Ivory and medium red. Red! Me?! I usually shy away from it, but this red is so fresh and modern and paired with ivory--tres chic. That's the huge plus side about getting holiday decor from a brand I love and trust and connect with like West Elm, everything is already curated so well. I'm not weeding through a sea of tacky tinsel to find a piece that's feels like me--it's all good! These trees have magnetic closures so they fold down flat for storage which makes me love them even more.
On the other side of the sink, I paired our Sonos speaker (a kitchen essential that we've had forever and couldn't love more--especially this time of year when it's blasting Christmas music nonstop), with two of these tall, narrow bottle brush trees and this candle from West Elm that smells as good as it looks (those legs!).
The only thing I added to the shelves were these ceramic cityscape houses --I can't resist a white ceramic house at Christmas! I am pretty sure they are meant to pop a tea light in, but I bought one strand of these round battery-operated led lights and dispersed it between the two. I can turn the lights on (they have timer!) with one button. It's so cute. And it's so cute the way Faye can't figure out how there are lights on in those little houses and who lives there?!
The last thing I added was this felt mistletoe over the laundry room door (which is where we come in from the garage). It makes coming home even sweeter.
All in all, it wasn't much but it looks and feels and smells so festive in here with just a few prominent pieces. Can't wait to trickle it into other areas of our home in the coming days! At the same time I ordered these pieces for our kitchen I also got this A-frame ornament for our tree--also from West Elm!--and have been waiting to get it hung. They are reclaimed douglas fir.
