A New Fixture and Paint-a-thon

October 25, 2013
We put in a lot of painting hours yesterday.  The good news is, it's done! (The painting part.) The bad news is, it was so late (11pm) that I didn't get to snap any photos for you, so we'll have all of those pictures for you on Monday.  Painting the planks took a lot longer than expected, yes.  But then, I also had a bit of a mid-project crisis where I felt like I lost my identity somewhere along the line.  Who picked this design?! I thought. Who made these decisions? Why is this slate gray paint I picked for the walls suddenly so country blue.  You see, the new light for the bathroom came from Shades of Light and she's a beaut:

But, when I chose the paint color for the bathroom, we were working with a vanity light only. And suddenly, with all of this glorious light overhead the paint color suddenly looked a lot different than it did and even more different than I imagined the end product to be.  Mix that with the cedar planks, painted or not, and things were looking country or coastal--not sure which--but not us.  That much I know. So, what's a girl to do?  Paint the planks, yes--and cabinetry.  And then we threw in the ceiling and walls again, too.  When I was getting my art degree, I remember my professor always saying, "If you aren't happy with it, you're not done yet."  I'm not a perfectionist. I'm not. But if I don't feel proud of something or happy with it, I can't stop. I'd rather keep painting (or working, etc) until I get there.  And, hallelujah, we got there late last night.

Have a happy weekend.  Our costume party is tomorrow and we can't wait.  What are you up to?

Ps. We announced the winner of the Wusthof giveaway here.

  1. I totally know how you feel (I even went to art school, too!). Painting over what you've already done (or more than you've planned) seems like such a pain, but in the end it will be worth it. Can't wait to see the finished results.

We painted a room a slate-bluish color too, and it turned out more blue than gray. I did question it, but we are living with it for now because I don't hate it, it's just different than I expected. Still neutral enough for our overall decor plans, though. Here are some photos (it's the spare bedroom):
