We're Headed to Cancun and I Packed... (A Peek into my Summer Wardrobe!)

June 24, 2019

A few months ago I shared my spring wardrobe in a post, and normally a spring wardrobe pretty much carries me through Summer here in Idaho. But Chris and I are in Cancun this week with my sisters, their significant others and my parents. A few years ago we did a similar trip with Chris's side of the family and it was so bonding. You spend so much time with your siblings as kids, but then you grow up and become new people and we're so anxious to connect with my immediate family again.

It was also a really good excuse to pick up a few summery pieces to wear around the beach! Here's what I packed:

BATHING SUITS

TOPS

BOTTOMS

DRESSES

COVERUPS

SHOES/ACCESSORIES

COSMETICS

I didn't take a photo of trying everything on. But here are a few!:

Here's my travel outfit I snapped this morning before heading to the airport! I love these straight-legged white jeans. They are so comfortable and this button down will double as a cover up at the beach. My bag is stashed with my AirPods, wallet, passport, chapstick, chargers and socks because I'm sure my feet will be freezing on the plane.

Mood.

And then add this super summery, lightweight sweatshirt in the evenings when I'll be cold again. (I caught a little bit of flack when I was trying on pants for our trip on Instagram, but I can't help it. I'm always so cold.

Oh yes, this was the outfit. We have gone to Mexico every couple years because I have a sister (and brother in law and cute nephew that live there). This time we're all staying at a resort together and this was an outfit I brought for a dinner one night. I'm tall (6') and I love how these pants are still long and flowy. These are talls but they come in regular and petite too!

This coverup was more than I usually spend on a coverup, but I saw it in an Instagram ad I was completely sold. (I got the xs/s) I guess you could say I was influenced. And now that I have it I can say it was money well spent. It's really light and gauzy and you can tie the front and the back will still hang down covering your butt, which I appreciate. You can also not tie it at all, wear it open, wear it as a top! It's versatile and beachy.

This coverup's colors were a little outside of my normal wheelhouse, but it's so fun and went with my periwinkle suit (it's such a great suit for the price, holy cow) so well. You can't tell very well in the photo above, but the background is peachy and really sweet. It's One Size Fits All and I love the flowy fabric. It feels lightweight, but covering and cozy. I can see myself wrapped up and taking a nap in it!

These wide legged cropped gauzy pants--I want them in every color. They are definitely lightweight enough for a beach coverup (I love them paired with this leopard print bikini because the waist is high and flattering) but could also totally be regular pants. I want them in every color now.

I love packing dresses for trips because I can wear them during the day, dress them up for night. Stay cool, or layer on a blazer. I found this one at Target, but funny story about the first one. I originally ordered it for Greta. She's usually wears a 10-12 in girls, but lately, she's getting tall so fast, I got her the size up (an XL) and she was SWIMMING in it. We laughed so hard and I told her I would exchange it, but I ended up trying it on and thought--perfect Mexico dress! The smocking is really stretchy and fun.

These shorts looked way longer on everyone else's photos on the site. #longlegs. But they are still cute for the beach! And I brought one perfect slouchy pocket sleeveless shirt that I might throw over my suit every day. But this beach hoodie. THIS BEACH HOODIE. I also vow to wear daily. It's true to size (I got a small) and lightweight and just the thing you want to slip on while you watch the sunset.

Last one I'll share because the bed behind me was getting out of control. My new fav white jeans again, but the star here is that seersucker top. I wanted to like it when I came across it, but it's really great in person. The photos online do it no justice. The sleeve length is superb. It's hits at the perfect spot on the waist. And it's completely classic.

Like I said, there were lots I didn't take pics of me trying on, but I am pretty sure I linked EVERYTHING I brought with me above in the different categories...or everything that I could find links to. I know this is a really different post for Chris Loves Julia, the blog, but it seemed like so many of you were also beach bound soon, I thought it might be fun! We'll be checking in occasionally this week on Instagram, and have a GREAT organization, tour for you here on Thursday--other than that, I'm away from my desk. ;)

  1. Love all your posts and you have such GREAT style that I would love to see more in this category. You find things that are accessible and cute and somehow affordable!! Keep doing what you're doing because it's working!!

  2. My daughter is tall and thin as well and she never moved to XL in girls clothes. Went to XS/XXS sizes in juniors. Online you can find pants in 00 long That are good for tall thin kiddos.

  3. I love this post! Such a fun collection of summery outfits. Thanks for the inspiration. You look beautiful and I hope you all have a wonderful time.

  4. Love this! I'm headed to Hawaii on my honeymoon late September and I'm trying to stock up now on cute clothes before the stores all start selling fall stuff!

  5. As someone who is always cold in the summer because of the air conditioning, I can appreciate the pants and the sleeves. I always pack a hoodie and some sort of long sweatpant for post beach indoor wear. We live in Florida so the AC is cranked up 90% of the year and I usually carry a light cardigan to throw on when we go into places. The struggle is real.
    Love all the outfits!

  6. I can't believe tens of thousands of people asked for this post! Wow! Quite a following you have now!

  7. I’m obsessed with that sleeveless slouchy tee. Mind if I ask what size you purchased? Reviews on their site say it runs big...
    Have fun on your trip!

  8. Love your style. I'm also tall and I have a long torso which makes shopping extra hard. Thanks for sharing your packing list. Do you also have a long torso? Just curious because it would help to know if the really cute clothes would fit me similar. Enjoy your vacation!

  9. Hi Julia! Let me compliment you first on your outfit. You look great. How do you manage to stay fit ? Is it with proper workout or healthy diet? I really look forward to get your tips on health and fitness so that I manage a better version of me.

  10. I'm obsessed with packing posts, videos, the whole thing. My YouTube suggestions are cluttered with them. It may not be your usual kind of post, but I think it's a lot like the post of people wanting to see what was in your kitchen drawers. Thanks for doing this one. Have a great time!

  11. Hi Julia! Love the outfits. By the way, how do you manage to maintain that skinny body. Do you workout or do you focus on dieting? You look great! Thanks and hope you respond :)

    1. Thanks so much! I use to focus a lot on being fit but when my health got worse last year (I have Hashimoto's) I've had to treat more and focus a lot on my eating. I have a really strict diet due to my thyroid condition and stay active

  12. Darn good thing cropped pants are a big deal these days because most everything on you comes out cropped! Have a fabulous time. We're off to Ashland Oregon for the Shakespeare Festival but temps are more low 70s than high 90s so I'm packing all long pants and long sleeves too.

    Have fun.
