A Painting Process.

January 5, 2012
Originally, I slapped some paint on the taller-than-I-am-canvas for the dining room in colors that I knew I wanted to use and it stayed that way for months.  Over the holiday, I finally decided to finish it.  ---I got a little carried away in the meantime.

It was a fun couple hours and I ended up about where I wanted to be:

Update 6.10.13: The finished painting (huge!) is currently for sale right here.

  1. Sorry to disappoint! The canvas is probably 8ft tall and 5 ft wide. Chris bought me a huge roll of canvas from DickBlick last Mother's Day. We made the frame ourselves and stretched the canvas over it and secured the edges on the back with a staple gun. A painting this large, I use house paint! I am a big fan of picking up the mistinted tester pots (they are always marked down to 50 cents) whenever I see them. I also used a lot of the colors we have on walls around the house to really tie it in. Hope it helps!

  2. Came over from pinterest and so disappointed that there's no tutorial. This would look awesome in my dining room. What size is the canvas and where did you get one that large? What kind of paint did you use?

  3. i just saw this on pinterest, and i love it! i had to come over here and tell-i couldn't just pin it and run!

  4. You're such a jerk. This could be a whole SERIES. I want EACH of those paintings. I'm so mad at you for painting over them!

  5. You are absolutely ridiculous. Your skills amaze me everyyyyyyyyyyyyyy time I see something you've busted out in just a few short hours. Holy cow. I tots agree, it is very "ikat" feel. Which I love and wish I could pull off!

  6. Each artist has their own favorite type of brushes. I personally like something a little stiffer. So I use over-sized oil-painting brushes. Very similar to a paint brush you would use for a wall, just a little stiffer.

  7. I love this. I would love to make something like this to match my dining room. I've pinned the one in your etsy shop so I won't forget. Great job!
