A full length mirror is a household staple, but over the years I've learned it isn't just for the closet. But before we get to those examples, I wanted to give you an update on our closet mirror! We're working on having one custom made to fit our design plan.
Where our current arched mirror is we'll be filling in that inset in the wall with shoe shelves and we would like a mirror to float in front of it.
The idea came to me when I came across this closet in an apartment in Kiev (source) and I knew it was the perfect solution for our closet. A pivoting mirror floating a couple feet in front of our shoes would still allow us to access them, but disguise them a little bit, too. (We definitely don't have designer shoes).
I made plans for our version that's a little wider (see below) and sent them to a metal worker for a bid. I'll keep you posted on where we end up there!
But before you worry about where the arched mirror will end up that's currently in our closet, I have at least 20 ideas for spots in our house and none of them are in a closet. A beautiful full length mirror isn't just for a closet! It's a great way to bounce light, reflect something beautiful or even make a small space look larger.
We used a full length mirror in our entry to fill a tall space:
There was a minute in our last house, we had one in our living room...
Look at this beautiful large mirror above a fireplace in a living room!
Or here in the living room filling in a blank wall near the stairs!
The example below has me eyeing our large blank dining room wall for the arched mirror...
And the one below reminded me not to neglect a stair landing...
Small, dark nooks are practically begging for a show-stopping mirror. In love!
Below we rounded up a few of our favorite full length mirrors for every budget. They are functional wall art, really. So whether you need one for your closet or bathroom, or just can't figure out what to put on that wall--maybe a big mirror is the answer!

THE HERO WE NEED!!!
Because my room is desperate for a full length mirror.
Thank you for this roundup! I have been looking for a full length mirror for our bedroom wall to free up floor space and replace the floor mirror we have as it's a small bedroom. We currently have a beautiful iron rounded cheval mirror that I'd love to use in our living space but I'm not sure that would work since most inspiration photos I find are of wall or leaning mirrors. Any styling suggestions of how to make it work in a space other than a bedroom?
The pivoting is a wonderful idea. This is a great list of mirrors. Pinning it!
The photo from Architectural Digest of the mirror over the fireplace looks like an inspiration photo! Two couches flanking the fireplace, large wall of windows to the left, and two symmetrical entrances into the room behind the fire place...you have executed similar vision but I love the cleanliness and "airiness" (if that makes sense) of yours better!
thank you for this post! my husband jokes that i would have a mirror in every room if i could.. and now that you posted this i have more ideas to show him. ????. he built the frame for our floor length mirror at the bottom of our steps, and i’m in love! — love the options!
Oh my gosh! Looking for a full length mirror (that we're going to turn sideways for our bathroom reno) was on my to-do list today. THANK YOU! Also, I cannot say how incredibly helpful it is that you added the dimensions in the link. THANK YOU!
Love this round up and looking forward to seeing where that mirror lands (even if you don't pick above the dining room fireplace please show us what it looks like b/c I'm dying to see :)).
IKEA also has some great affordable full length mirrors (I have the hovet https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hovet-mirror-aluminum-50038213/ $129) standing against the wall in my studio apartment across from my only wall of windows. It feel really substantial and made my apartment feel twice as big immediately!
I came here just to say this - the Ikea mirror is SUCH a good price for the size and feels really nice. People always ask where ours is from and are shocked when we say Ikea!
