Relocated Curtains. 'Cause we like to move things around.

July 7, 2011
It took me ALL day to hang curtains in the dining room.  All day long yesterday.  Of course, Greta needed attention and some outside time and we had to run a couple errands, but I was thinking it was gonna be a quick during-her-nap project.  But, I was wrong.  Next to paint, window treatments can have the biggest impact on a room and the dining room was in desperate need of something to dress up that bay window.  That's where those white curtains that used to be in Greta's room come in.

I didn't want to lose much of the light coming in from the windows, so I opted for four small panels instead of 2 wide ones that would potentially completely cover the side windows.  Which meant cutting the curtain panels in half.  Luckily, there were 8 grommets on each panel, so it was pretty simple.  I just threw them in the washer and dryer.  Then I cut them in half then I hemmed the cut side and about two inches on the bottom so the curtains lightly graze the floor.

And there was lots and lots or ironing with these 100% cotton drapes.  As for the rods, I picked up simple cafe curtain rods from Wally World.  They were 3 bucks each.  Custom bay window rods are a ridiculous amount of money, so we just lined three up on each window and saved ourselves the fortune.

Close up of where the rods meet.

And because we have a 1-year old we bout a few extra rod holders for superior pull/yank/swing protection.  Yes, it would have looked a lot sleeker with out them, but Greta is our priority and the extra blips on the oil-rubbed bronze rods don't hold a candle to her safety.

Now the window looks like this:

Much softer.  And a definite improvement in our opinion (although we totally get long curtains aren't for everyone).  Now, switching out those oogly metal blinds for some, I don't know, bamboo ones would be money.  Good thing I ordered some from Overstock a week a go. New blinds are due to arrive tomorrow.  Stay tuned. :)

  1. Wow! That "room just keeps getting better and better! The last picture when you put down the rug I was like, "dang that looks good!" I think the curtains were the frosting on the cake for sure.
