Freddy's Baby Boy Nursery Reveal

I've been sitting on the edge of my seat, anxiously waiting to share the finished reveal of Freddy's baby boy nursery! And well, between two separate trips across the country to Idaho, we finally did it. Chris and I have been friends with the Fullmers since way back when we lived in our Rexburg house, so when Kelsi shared they were expecting their fifth, I asked if we could gift them a special nursery for their baby boy. They said yes, and I'm so honored and grateful that they let us add a little bit of crazy to their life so we could get Freddy's nursery finished.

This makeover was especially magical because we were able to use so many pieces from our new Pottery Barn Kids collection, which is a big pinch-me moment. See the initial mood board here.

Previously, this room belonged to Freddy's big sister Ellie, who now shares a room with her little sister Lia. During our first trip to Idaho in April, we painted it from a pretty mauve to a pale blue, Benjamin Moore Wales Gray, which immediately brought in "baby boy nursery" vibes. The second trip (just last week!) we finished it up by installing the mural, hanging curtains, putting together some furniture, hanging a gallery wall and adding the rest of the elements. The transition from big sister to baby brother has me caught up in my feels.

The glider/rocker from our Pottery Barn Kids line with the matching half moon ottoman (that's stationary! ottomans paired with gliders should always not move, imo) is a favorite piece in the nursery and I would be lying if I didn't admit that I have about 4 rooms in our home that are also calling for the sophistically striped chair. Since they live in the countryside of Idaho, I really wanted to incorporate some nature-esque elements, forest animals, and classic stripes and plaids to make it feel like home.

Dark walnut, turned-wood furniture

Although there's a closet in the room, a dresser is so ideal for a nursery since babies tend to come with so many itty bitty clothes and necessities. The dark walnut, turned-leg dresser from our collection is such a classic, functional piece, and I love the added richness that it brings into the nursery.

Pro tip: Always hang your curtains high and wide. This go around, I wanted the curtains to hug the sides of the dresser, and since they have blackout shades, they'll never need to be closed. Doesn't the room look so much taller with the curtain rod (we got from Martha and Ash) extended all the way up to the crown?

If you followed along on Instagram, you know that these were not the original custom curtains I had planned for the space. 3 days before I was headed to Idaho, I found out that they wouldn't be there in time, so I pivoted and ordered a couple tablecloths online!! I folded down the top, which sports sweet tassels and have fallen pretty in love with the no sew solution. I took a big chance ordering a gingham tablecloth online but it really paid off!

Also, I give you permission not to match your colors perfectly. Sometimes a difference in tone can be a lovely juxtaposition, just like the gingham curtains against the blue-green-gray walls. In this room, there's a color story and that's what I focused on.

Atop the changing table there's plenty of storage for diapers, and other baby needs. Note: You can buy the dresser individually or as a set with the storage topper/changing pad tray. The tray can transition off as your baby grows, which always is how we designed this whole collection to be.

Peel & stick mural wallpaper

A huge part of this makeover was centered around using our peel & stick mural wallpaper. The entire mural comes in a pack of 6 panels for the price of $169, which is nearly unheard of in the world of wallpaper, let alone mural wallpaper. Each panel is 9′ tall and 1.5′ wide, which would be perfect for installing on a wall that’s 9 feet or less. However, if your wall happens to exceed that, no problem. For little Freddy’s nursery, we added some picture-frame molding around the mural–here’s a full tutorial on how we did it! The mural is a part of our kids' collection, but is definitely suitable for grown up spaces, too!

The turned wood convertible crib is a part of the entire dark walnut furniture collection, and you can either buy the crib on its own or with the toddler bed conversion kit to use as they grow. The fitted sheet, sweater-knit baby blanket, and linen quilt are such lovely textile elements that keep this nursery looking classic and cozy.

Bubble Pendant

This bubble pendant is also a part of the Pottery Barn Kids collection, and Chris said it was the easiest light fixture he's ever installed. Oh, and it's darling, so there's that.

It's always exciting to see a few of our collections colliding together to make something beautiful. The rug is from our Loloi collection and is made of 100% wool which means it's one of our highest-quality rugs! A wool rug can last you a lifetime because they’re also the most durable and stain resistant! The medium-height pile and neutral colorways are going to bring so much comfort and calmness into this Nursery. And the pillow in the crib and the pillow on the glider are both from our Loloi collection. I think they pair really beautifully with the bedding and pinstripe glider and ottoman.

Speaking of the glider and ottoman–let's just say I wish could have sat here to rock all of my babies to sleep.

One of my favorite pieces from our Pottery Barn Kids collection is these display frames. Of course, they're darling in this nursery, but they can be used throughout any room in your home. With their solid wood frame and gold foil finish, these frames make a lovely display for artwork, collectibles, and keepsakes. Easily open up the hinge-style frame, and swap out the artwork on the beautiful linen-like pinboard lining. We placed some darling animal prints, but you could fill them with your own photos and drawings, or treasures you've collected. I love a decor piece that adapts as your child grows.

Obviously, Freddy's big sisters love the nursery as much as we do.

I'm so proud of this space! This nursery holds a piece of my heart for so many reasons, and I hope this space will support Freddy and the Fullmers for years to come.
