Revealing Faye's New Traditional Wallpaper and What's Next

To catch you up, we're currently in the process of renovating our daughter Faye's room. She's nine, and she's pretty interested in design, so I've been including her in some of the decision-making. Well, I presented her with 28 wallpaper samples (all selected by me), and after much contemplation from her, and a little back and forth between a few--she landed on a shimmery geometric. I'll be honest, I was rooting for a floral one, but I'm glad I let her take the lead because now that it's installed, we're both so incredibly happy with her choice.

Before I gush too much about this pretty wallpaper, here's a list of everything we've done in Faye's room up until this point:

• Patched the flooring where the closet was removed

We hired out the prep work and installation, and every time we turn to the professionals for wallpaper installs, we're amazed at how quickly and perfectly they're able to do it. Other wallpaper jobs we've hired include the mural in the study, Polly's storybook wallpaper, the dining room, the powder bathroom, and the grasscloth wallpaper in the hallway.

I was nervous this wallpaper would be too 2012 turquoise (if you know what I mean). But it's so soft and sophisticated and beyond beautiful. The small sample really didn't do it justice, and the scale of the pattern makes the room feel so much larger! Of course, removing the closet contributed to that as well.

The wallpaper is from Farrow & Ball, which is the same brand as the wallpaper in our powder bath. What I love about this paper is that, rather than digitally printed ink, the design is painted on, creating a really lovely tactile, textured finish.

We've been trying to source some crown molding to patch where the closet used to be, but we're coming up short. Right now, it's looking like we might need to replace all the crown unless we get lucky and find a match.

Since Faye's room is the "Jack" to Polly's "Jill" bedroom, I wanted them to compliment each other rather than compete. I think this wallpaper is the perfect balance of organic and geometric patterns, which harmonizes beautifully with Polly's playful wallpaper in her room. (Funny note: I looked back at Polly's wallpaper post and this wallpaper was a top runner for that room as well! I guess I loved it for awhile).

As I shared in the initial mood board, I was really excited about incorporating some contrast trim into Faye's room. Seeing this wallpaper installed has changed my thoughts on that (it happens!). We'll either do a creamy white or keep it white to match the trim in Polly's room.
