Easter Decor for the Home

I was never that big on decorating for Easter until I had kids. They're so excited about every holiday, and I want it to feel special for them. Now I put some thought into how I want the season to feel for them. That's why I focus on Easter decorations that are subtle enough for my own personal aesthetic, but will hopefully become backdrops for my kids' core memories over the years.

Speaking of core memories: I got my tonsils out two days before Easter. My parents got me and my sister giant stuffed bunnies with jelly beans on their ears as a kind of consolation prize. I still have my bunny — I named it Jelly, and I bring it out every year. It's not cute, but I've had it since I was 8 years old, and I still hold onto that.

Now bunny-related decor is my most collected Easter category. The kids get excited when anything is new in the house, so I add bunnies to the shelves in the kitchen, which are a fun little nod to the season. I'll also add a bunny stuffed animal to my kids' beds at Easter and keep it special by only having those come out at Easter. My girls love that. As Easter is right at the changing of the seasons, it's the perfect backdrop to think spring! I really focus on lightening up our house. It's time to declutter and remove some of the heavy furniture, textures and fabrics that carried us through the winter season. Say goodbye to those flannels and heavy throws. Spring cleaning can mean storing things away in addition to letting go of junk.

Introduce Seasonal Colors

Once you've created that space for something fresh, I like to add back in seasonal colors. My Easter decorations tend to have a muted color palette. This year, I'm really loving butter yellow, spring green and gray-blue together. Even a navy blue and cream combination is so pretty for Easter.

Arrange Your Collections

I think it's fun to display a collection of something — like I do with the bunnies. If you celebrate Easter, chances are you're going to have an Easter dinner. So think about collecting appetizer plates, napkins — really anything for the table.

Display Natural Elements

That's also a great place to focus on flowers, whether faux or real. I like to sprinkle little stems around my home that reflect the flowers and leaves of the season, such as daffodils, dogwood and ranunculus. Choose those natural touches that echo the soft color palettes of Easter.
