It was Professor Plum, with the knife, in the Conservatory. Happy Halloween from Clue characters: 1986 edition!
Over the years, we've dressed as everything from dolls and monsters to Peter Pan, E.T. characters, and The Wizard of Oz. But in the last several years, one of our kids has usually chosen our costumes. If you look back, you can see it’s pretty obvious. Candyland—Polly had an obsession with playing Candyland two years ago. Last year, we did Harry Potter since Greta and Faye were both reading HP that year. We were supposed to go to Harry Potter World at that time, but our youngest got sick. (We got to go this year, and it was so fun.)
This year's costume is probably no surprise if you’ve been following along on social. We now have played 3 versions of Clue this year, and my girls cannot get enough. We showed our girls that there are actual Clue characters—they were so excited about that.
It’s kind of great because almost all of our costumes are very wearable. In a mom’s world, that’s the best kind of costume. Faye decided she wanted to be Mrs. Peacock, and it came from these Target boots that were these peacock colors. Let’s get Polly this red dress for Miss Scarlett, and she can wear this for Christmas minus all the accessories. For Greta being Mrs. White I think I found the dress on American Eagle (linked similar here), and she said, "Oh my gosh, I would love that." Chris didn’t have a say in it, even just thinking about Chris, of course, he’s Colonel Mustard. And he just owned it in these photos... I chose Professor Plum mostly because I was dying to get a plum pantsuit in my collection.
If you're wanting to take on this theme for yourselves, I rounded up what I bought and some other Clue-inspired pieces to get you started here.
There are so many Clue editions out there. We have the Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, and classic editions, but there are so many more out there to collect! I just discovered the Bridgerton version as well as Clue Conspiracy which seems like a mix of Clue and the mafia party game... I can't think of a more fun way to spend our next game night!
If you're a die hard Clue lover there are also some luxury versions of the game. I cannot get over how gorgeous this wood one is (and it's three dimensional!) and I love that this one looks like a vintage book when packed away.
