Inspiration

On Open Concept Living + Multi-Purpose Spaces

May 30, 2016

Hope you're having a good Memorial Day! We have a day of yard work ahead of us followed by a big BBQ with some friends--our first one on our deck! Whatever you're doing today: paying respects to loved ones who've passed, yard work, a road trip to some dreamy cabin, a day at the lake--we hope you're with people you love. This week's podcast is now available for you to listen to. On this episode, we talk about multi-functional spaces and open concept rooms (like our living room + dining room + kitchen!) and how to make them cohesive and intentional.

We also call our friends, Whitney and Ashley from the amazing blog, Shanty 2 Chic, to get their advice on making large or small spaces feel cohesive and talk about their show Open Concept airing on HGTV June 12th!

You can listen on your computer right here. On the left hand side, click the blue “View in iTunes” button. Hit subscribe underneath our photo and you’ll be able to listen to every episode for free. OR, you can listen to it on the go through your smart phone.

If you have an iPhoneclick here to listen or search “Chris Loves Julia” and it will pop up. Hit Subscribe and you’ll be able to listen. Hint: the Podcast app is already on your phone!

If you are on an Android phone, you have two free app options: Stitcher Radio or Google Play. Download the app, and search “Chris Loves Julia” and hit subscribe. Listen away.

Thank you for all the comments you've left over the past week about the podcast on instagram, email and right here. Podcasts are a little different in that there isn't a ton of interaction between listeners, but we read every email and comment and review! If you haven't left a review yet, you can do so right here! We'd love it. We've had requests for transcripts, which I am working on! We've also had a few requests to post the show note links right here as well. Done! Here are links to all the things we reference in this week's episode.

  1. Also enjoying the podcasts. I particularly liked the color theory discussion. Is there anyway you can do a blog post of various paint colors and what undertones they have? I appreciated your advice about comparing the paint chips but I am having a hard time picking whites based on undertones. So various examples from you would be helpful.

  2. For some reason, I couldn't get my review to go through. Every nickname variation I tried to come up with was "already taken." So I'm going to leave it here, because I wanted to share my gratitude... Happy Tuesday!

    So, so good!! (Review Title)

I am totally hooked on this podcast and so glad to finally hear the voices and the logic/advice in real form. It's awesome to read the blog posts, but it's everything to put a voice to the words and pick up on the inflections and tones of your voices. Just puts it all together. Hope that doesn't sound too creepy!!

Anyway, the subject for each podcast has been so helpful! Such as the color theory (with the pink-ish white example) was such an eye-opener for me and definitely gives me an element to think about when selecting paint color for any given space. #mindblown

Everything you guys talk about covers so much ground for us DIY home decorators who want to be a little more intentional and have a well thought-out plan when taking on projects, no matter how big or small. You guys have been such an inspiration for me in the short time I've been following you, and I just want to say a big "thank you" and #praisehands that you're willing to share your own journey with the world.

You guys have the greatest personalities and it truly comes out in the podcast. You're authentic and funny and you keep it real about the challenges you face and mistakes you've made along the way. And it's a breath of fresh air to hear you talk about those.

So, yeah. There's my review. Can't wait to keep listening! #bringit

  3. I'm finally catching up on your podcasts today - loving them all! It's always fun to hear you "in person" & all the guests you've had on are top notch! :)

  4. I loved this episode, and your podcast in general! It's nice to hear more than one opinion on some design questions. Between you two, Preston and your guests, I like the well of insight you guys provide! Keep up the guests! I'd love to hear an episode on how to collaborate with brands. It can be stuffy and controlling, so getting your take on how to create a successful partnership when you're being provided with free products...

  5. Hi Julia, please take this constructively - I found it a bit offensive that you open this post with "whatever you're doing today...cemetery visits...listen to our [hyperlinked] podcast wherever you are!" That wasn't the place to plug your podcast. For some, Memorial Day is truly about remembering lost loved ones. A cemetery visit isn't about listening to a podcast. It's about remembrance, mourning, grieving, honoring, loving lost loved ones and heroes. The plug just left a bad taste for me.

  6. Just wanted to chime in that I am loving your podcast! Your style and personalities really work on the radio, and I think it has just enough production value to make it fun to listen to but not over the top! (Love the little music intros and closing - Chris loves Julia, and we love you!) I'm a long-time blog follower and it has been fun following you into this new adventure. Happy Memorial Day - enjoy that gorgeous new deck!
