A Change in the Dining Room: Our New Dining Chairs

September 26, 2024

For the past few years we've had a set of vintage chairs in our dining room and I really do love them... at least I love how they look. But to be honest, they are really uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time. We love to host dinner parties and game nights and really wanted something that looked great and invited people to sit down and stay awhile.

Shop The Dining Room

As soon as I saw these upholstered dining chairs from Frontgate I fell in love. I think we're at the point with our girls that we can have upholstered dining chairs and not regret it, especially when they have performance fabric (I chose the Sable Finish with Eggshell Nomad Performance Fabric). Can you believe the difference this makes in the dining room? It really feels like the perfect moody, modern, traditional addition to this room.

If you're looking to spruce up your dining room with some new chairs I rounded up some great options for you!

  1. Kadner Dining Chair (set of 2) $998
  2. Savoy Dining Chair $580
  3. Gail Dining Chair $740
  4. Oma Dining Chair $450
  5. Camile Dining Chair $698
  6. Spindle Dining Side Chair $595
  7. Set of 4 Two-Tone Windsor Back Chairs $449
  8. Meryl Linen Walnut Dining Chair $498
  9. The Cooper Dining Chair $850
  10. Chloe Upholstered Side Chair $850
  11. Watson Upholstered Dining Chair $298
  12. Ines Slipcovered Dining Armchair $1,399

Some other great options!

  1. The chairs look so comfortable. But the upholstery is sort of a cream or caramel color which doesn't seem to go with the wallpaper, which is more of a cool gray or green and white. Will you change the wallpaper for a better background for the chairs?

  2. I don’t think there is any phase of life worth uncomfortable seating😂 and I get it. Were your former (huge) DR chairs, also beautiful BTW, as uncomfortable as they looked??
NB: chairs have been insanely expensive FOREVER⁉️ 🤷🏻‍♀️🫨🫣😢

  3. These are SO much better. The old chairs always looked like children’s chairs to me? (And not get comfortable) I can see long, laughing dinners in these new chairs.

  4. I have wood chairs like your old ones around my dining room table. Only the chairs at the head and foot are upholstered. The whole set is great-looking, but I have chronic neck pain, and I hate sitting there for longer than a half-hour. If I had the money to do it over, I would choose high-back upholstered chairs for comfort. I hope you enjoy the new look and feel.

  5. I love that you are willing to try new things and follow your instincts! The new chairs are great! I am curious to see how the performance fabric works out … I hope it is amazing because I am dying to get similar chairs but didn’t know how much to trust it. (We eat a lot of spaghetti and pasta sauce here!)

  6. They’re gorgeous. They fit the room perfectly. As someone who has had upholstered chairs in the past, just know they will get filthy. LOL. You will want to spot clean them regularly or just live with the grime. I was able to take mine off completely and throw them in the washing machine, but honestly, that didn’t happen more than once or twice a year. They’re beautiful and I’m sure much more comfortable!

  7. For the record, I loved the vintage chairs. I do think that comfort and function is more important in a space you use so often. If you ever need a loving home for the old ones, where they will be told they are pretty and important, you just let me know 😜

  8. I am SO glad you changed out your dining chairs! Every time I saw a picture of them I silently cringed. Now I love seeing the new chairs. Bravo!

  9. I'm a huge vintage lover, but I'm going to be honest, I never liked those vintage dining chairs. But these new ones feel absolutely right!

  10. I always thought the old chairs were too rustic for the rest of the space and the new ones look much better and more in keeping with the style of the house.

12 Tips for How to Host and Make Your Guests Feel Completely at Ease

I recently got a question from a commenter who asked me how I entertain at home to make guests feel at ease. This question came at a great time since fall can be a natural hosting season from watch parties (there's football...or The Bach) to Thanksgiving. The truth is — Chris and I really *enjoy* […]
