You can find all of the sources in Greta's Room here!
More than anything, I want every room in our house to be functional and beautiful and livable. After living here for 18 months, I feel like we're just finding our stride and are able to make more concrete decisions about what could be working better for us and make those changes. It's empowering and feels like shedding layers or excess weight when it clicks--this would be so much better if!....
If you follow along on Instagram, you have probably seen some demo happening in the entry/office area this week! (If not, we'll share more about that on Monday.) But it's definitely one of those things that is 10 giant steps in the right direction for function and getting rid of the angled entry is a plus. We also made a big decision about Greta's room this week.
When we first laid out her room, two beds made so much sense. She has weekly sleepovers with her cousin and Faye sleeps in her room once a week, too. I love the bond and memories that they are all creating. But the truth is, as she grows, her needs are outweighing the fun of having a second bed in there. She recently expressed the desire for a bookcase (she's an avid reader), desk, a dresser and her own dedicated space. Valid. Her current layout just won't accommodate those things.
We made the decision to sell the other bed this week and we're all so excited about the future of her room, but no one more than her. Then I came across this picture and it got me excited all over again! Built-ins are coming!

Hello, CLJ team and readers! I just want to tell a cautionary tale about buying Frame TVs (and possibly other things) on ebay, and make a suggestion as to how to ensure you get the benefit of the warranty. I bought a brand new Frame at a really great price last President's Day, and it was great until it recently just stopped working. Well within the one year warranty period, I wasn't worried about it. However, Samsung claimed that my TV was excepted from the warranty because the email receipt I got from ebay was not sufficient to meet the terms of the warranty and that this was "clearly stated" in the warranty. Thankfully, I was able to reach out to my seller and get a more "formal" receipt with the additional information required by Samsung, although Samsung is proving slow to act on the claim. So by all means buy your Frame on ebay, but ask your seller immediately for a receipt that will allow you to make a claim under warranty if needed, and don't tell Samsung that the item was purchased on ebay (that was advice from my seller, but it was too late in my case). Additionally, while I had purchased Square Trade protection, ST said that their plan will not kick in until the warranty was up, so that's also something to be aware of. Hope this helps those of you shopping for Frame TVs and other big ticket items on ebay and saves you from the runaround I've had to do!
My husband built built-ins in both of our girls’ rooms with window seats, and they have been so helpful and functional, on top of adding a really pretty architectural element to their rooms. You’re gonna love it!!! And most importantly, so will your little lady!
When you rearrange furniture on wall-to-wall carpet, like Greta's bed, do you worry about furniture leaving marks on the carpet? How do you deal with that? We are in the process of buying new carpet, but know that the furniture we currently have won't stay another year or two.
Martha Stewart says to spray with water and that'll fluff it up
Heat up an iron on the steam setting. Make a tea towel very damp (wring it out) place it on top of the indented carpet and place your heated iron on the steam setting directly on top for a few seconds. Lift the towel, if the indent is not gone use another section of the damp tea towel and put the iron on it again. Typically two times works but if not, do it again just make sure the tea towel is damp! You will never know there was an indent!
I love your Casual Fridays, especially when you share the fun podcast episodes you love, thank you!!
As someone who had sleepovers sharing a twin bed into my early teens I think her room will still be great for sleepovers but having all the extras will make it more fun for her during the non-sleeping hours! Love the bench window seat idea.
I can't wait to see the changes you're planning for Greta's room! And just a thought - you can always build a trundle bed and still accommodate guests in her room so she can keep building those memories with family and friends.
Where did you get your great horse paintings?

hi Julia! If you have any other “budget nightsstands” that look nice, would love to see. This target one is sold out in two colors, and I am on the hunt for an affordable option to upgrade my bedroom
The new design for Greta’s room is basically how we built our daughters bedroom with her bed on the same wall. Except she has bookcases facing toward the window bench. If you do the bench, be mindful of the dimension that you will need to fill it with a mattress or foam. I will have to do something completely custom for hers.
Could you make the built-in bench in Greta's room deep enough to double as a twin bed for sleepovers? I can't wait to see what you do!
Oooh!!! Fun!!
Love love love the inspiration built in photo. Could the window seat actually be a twin bed or something large enough to roll out a sleeping bag for sleep overs? What ever path you choose, it will be interesting to follow along.
I started following @fineanddandyco a while ago on instagram for the murals and immediately thought of your home! I feel like a beautiful moody mural would fit right in. If you decide to do one, I can't wait to see what you pick/how you design around it!
Happy Friday! I love that you are allowing Greta to lead those design changes in her room to help really make that room her own. Truth is, she has a large bed that can easily accommodate a cousin or a sister for the night with her if she wants a sleepover!
