It was Spring for, like, 2 hours here and then it dumped 6 more inches of snow but it still lit a Spring cleaning purge fire under me. I emptied my closet of all the clothes I never wore this winter. I bagged up all my maternity clothes and 98% of the baby clothes that have passed from girl to girl (kept a few keepsakes) and then I went through our decor and started piling up furniture we're never going to use. I usually just bring everything to the thrift store so I am done! But when I started putting everything together, I realized we have a lot of good stuff and maybe a yard sale when the weather warms up a bit would be fun. We haven't had an actual yard sale in years, so I'm rusty, but excited, too!
We also did a little Spring Cleaning on our site this week! The first is we moved the search bar to the top of our site (instead of buried in the sidebar) on the desktop and mobile version, so you can find what you're looking for--including the search bar, haha--faster. Secondly, the Shop Our House page has always been a landing spot where you can find all the sources for everything in our home, but it was kind of clunky because all the rooms were on one page. I re-worked the whole thing, updated the photos and products and organized it by room. I also added text links, in addition to the photo links, so hopefully it works a lot better for everyone.
You can also access the Shop Our House pages through our Instagram Highlights! Each room has its own swipe up feature that will bring you directly to that space's sources. It will live permanently on our Instagram feed, accessed anytime you're wondering where something is from--check out "SOURCES".
Other fun things this week!
"Six people making eye contact around a table in someone’s home? It could be world-changing." Excellent article. More dinner parties!
• I found a new design crush in Natasha Levak (@natashalevak--just 1007 followers!). This bathroom is making me weak in the kneeeeeeeeeees.
• It snowed 6 inches and as an act of rebellion (or hope!?), I ordered these distressed bermuda shorts on sale. It's so hard to find good-looking long shorts, that I usually just end up wearing long pants all summer. I'll keep you posted on fit!
• I'm sending these pretty daffodils and tulips (growing in a basket!) to my mother in law for Easter.
• They extended the Premier Day sale I wrote about yesterday today! See all the best deals I found right here. Also, a bunch of people were able to stack free shipping or 20% off through West Elm (using code THEBEST) on top of the sale. Sooooo...run before they catch on!
Hope you all have the happiest weekend and that it's looking more like Spring wherever you are!
Hi ????????♀️ The blog is still operating funky ! It is bouncing around and I am unable to read a full post. Just thought you should know as I saw some other comments that you were experiencing issues. I live in Florida.
Thanks Tracy! I'll take a look at that today.
Its still dumping snow in the UK. Worst winter and "spring" since I can remember
Thanks so much for sharing the premier day sale! I was holding out on buying some pendants for our new kitchen 'cause I knew there was bound to be a sale with a %-off plus free shipping :D yay for patience and for sharing great deals!
Hi Julia, I have a design dilemma and would so appreciate your insight! I’ve been planning on painting my kitchen cabinets in BM Simply White but I was listening to the In Living Color Theory episode of your podcast and realized that my Baltic Brown granite countertops would make the cabinets look pink! You saved me from a painting headache!! Do you have any recommendations for a better BM paint color to go with brown/gray/peachy granite? Thank you so much!
When Simply White wouldn't work for us, we used Chalk from Ace Hardware. I'd recommend getting a bunch of sample cards and holding them up next to your countertops.
Hi! I've been a long time follower of your blog (5+ years at this point!). Have you recently changed the time your daily posts go live? I think before it would happen sometime earlier in the morning (I'm in EST). Recently I've noticed when I do my morning check, there isn't a new post, then notice the next day there was one posted. Just trying to understand the schedule!
It usually goes live every morning at 4am MST! (This morning we were a little late because the site updates were rolling out a little later.) Sorry about that!
Is there a way to read the dinner party article without signing up for the WSJ?
That is so strange! I read the whole thing through a Facebook link yesterday and don't have a WSJ subscription. Trying to find a new link!
I searched it on FB and was able to read the whole article there. Thanks!
Oh good!!
I tried the Facebook route and was still faced with a pay wall. Bummer.
While I enjoy your content, I would much prefer all the links on a side tab. When you post larger photos, it is difficult to get the full effect when I am dodging that giant header. Admittedly, I am not a computer pro and there might be a way to reduce that header that I haven’t found yet. I love your blog, though, and will continue to do the header dodging as best I can unless you can clue me into an alternative.
Are you referring to the mobile or desktop version?
I have the same problem on a desktop. Mobile version is fine, for me.
Yay for the search bar at the top! And that bathroom, sigh...
