Yesterday we played a fun game in our Instagram Stories, where we brought our followers on a hypothetical shopping spree. It's the "Would You Rather" of shopping with a set budget and you can't choose both or neither as options. It's pretend money! "Spend" freely! We're bringing it to Casual Friday today so I can share my answers (which were almost completely opposite of the majority on Instagram. Haha!). Also I just have to say this is all just fun and there's no right answers. Everybody has different priorities and preferences and that's what makes us all so uniquely great (and this game fun!).
$200 on a
Purse or Decorative Pillow - For me, Definitely the pillow. I love the quality and uniqueness a designer pillow can bring to a sofa, chair, bed, bench! In fact, I HAVE purchased $200 pillows and have never purchased a $200 purse.
$1,200...
Custom Curtains or Original Art - My favorite curtains I've ever owned are custom ones. They are WORTH the money and I've never once regret spending money on quality custom curtains so I'm going to say that. Although I'm not one to pass up Incredible Original Art.
$100
Chef’s Knife or Pair of Jeans - Jeans, although Chris would go with the knife (does that surprise anyone?). Maybe if I didn't have a house full of nice knives I would think differently.
$2,000
Sofa or Vacation - Vacation. I'd rather spend more imaginary money on my dream sofa.
$350
Lamp or Coat - For me--a lamp. And if you know my love for lamp-o-clock, this shouldn't come as a shock.
$600
Wallpaper or Bedding - Wallpaper!!
$5,000
Rug or Chandelier - Chandelier, because lighting makes such an incredible statement! Although this would almost cover the cost of my dream rug for the kitchen I haven't justified yet. lol
$12,000
French Range or Car - This one was SO close on Instagram. It's basically a VERY nice range or a used car. For me, in this dream world, I'd go for the range!
$150
Sweater or Faux Tree - The sweater! For me, a $150 sweater would be high quality, and a $150 faux tree might not be the fullest, realest looking tree.
$1,600
Floor Mirror or Armchair - I would definitely go with a substantially sized, floor mirror. I love the way the bounce around light in a room! In fact, my favorite thing to put on a wall that faces a window is a mirror---it's almost like the cheapest way to add another window.
$200
Dinner or Blow Dryer - A luxury experience over a high-quality hair tool? Hmmmm, I'm going to have to go with the dinner because I love making special memories. (Although I do have the Dyson Hair Dryer and like it. I'd still choose the fancy dinner!)
$30,000
Custom Closet or Theater Room - Hands down the closet. Chris would probably choose the theater room. You might not expect it, but the closet in our Modern Cottage is the room I miss the most. I look back and can't believe the space we created. There was a window!!! In my closet!! It was so spacious and organized and I miss it every day. We're actually considering taking some space from our current bathroom to expand the closet space as it's just so tight. Maybe we should start with taking out the humming florescent light in there and see if that helps ease my mind a bit.
Just take me back to a closet with natural lighting, a space for everything, and vanity to sit down and do my makeup... See it all here.
Tell me what you would choose!

Your closet at #cljmoderncottage is probably my favourite of all closets, leaving that would have been hard. Its like a glam boutique for private shopping, but, actually your everyday space to prep for the day, what's not to love!
We often think that we don't have enough space in our closet! In fact it depends mainly on our clothes ... The more we have, the more space they need !!! What if we just started by sorting our clothes and looking at what we really put on. It seems that we only wear 20% of the clothes we have in our closet or wardrobe. Incredible, isn't it? So, let's sort our clothes already and only keep only those we love and really wear! We will undoubtedly have more room or less clutter in the morning to choose the right outfit! Good luck and have a good Sunday!
Overachieving comment:
$200 on a Purse or Decorative Pillow – It really depends. Can't choose.
$1,200…Custom Curtains or Original Art – Art for sure.
$100 Chef’s Knife or Pair of Jeans – Jeans.
$2,000 Sofa or Vacation – Vacation.
$350 Lamp or Coat – Depends. Probably the lamp.
$600 Wallpaper or Bedding – Bedding.
$5,000 Rug or Chandelier – Rug. I feel like there are more choices for statement chandeliers at different price points. Rugs significantly differ in quality at different price points. Well, lighting does too, but I'm not touching a chandelier everyday.
$12,000 French Range or Car – Range, but not necessarily French.
$150 Sweater or Faux Tree – Sweater.
$1,600 Floor Mirror or Armchair – Armchair.
$200 Dinner or Blow Dryer – Dinner. But I'm cheating as I wear my natural curls and do not use heat.
$30,000 Custom Closet or Theater Room – Closet, though I don't need this much for my dream closet.
Your closet at #cljmoderncottage was by far my favourite room! I can imagine you are grieving the loss of that room the most! 😂 I know I would!! (PS, I would take the mirror over the armchair any day, too😉)
Your closet in the old house was amazing..... my DREAM!!! loved the window in there. Loved the color of the cabinets. So special. can't wait to see what you do in your current one!
I look at your current closet and try not to feel jealous (mine is small and it's shared with my husband), but I'd miss the former closet for sure!
Thanks for the fun game!
Thanks for the fun game.
I totally filed the assignment lol! I thought we had to guess what you would spend the money on… it was fun, let’s do it again. And p.s. always buy the art.
I’m so impressed with Madewell! I live in Canada so I couldn’t apply the promo code. I love those Sherpa lined mules so much that I still ordered them happily and paid for the shipping to Canada. I emailed them just to inquire about the code and they are going to honour it for me! So impressed and a customer for life. I didn’t want the dupes in this case, because I’m going to wear these every chance I get and for as long as I can! So worth saving up for, and their graciousness about the code is just the icing on the cake!! Thank you for featuring them.
I loved taking the shopping spree challenge and getting your perspective! Gives me a lot to think about as I weigh priorities in our evolving home!
I miss your closet the most too. It was so beautiful. The lighted shoes, the unbelievable mirror, wide open space and like you said a window. It was a dream come true. Your closet before was beautiful too though so hang in there I know you will make this one great in time.
Julia! I just saved the most similar rug on eBay (for a lot less): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-Wool-RNR-9164-2-8-x-16-0-Persian-Malayer-Rug-/372495023319?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0
PS I am waiting on baited breath for the kitchen reveal someday
