We recently put up some of our new Chris Loves Julia + Pottery Barn Kids Turned Wood Book Ledge shelves in Polly’s room. She had a really cute dollhouse-shaped bookcase on the floor, but I wanted something that gave her more room around her bed. Stacking three of these book ledges was the perfect solution! Honestly? She loves having her favorite books on display. It got my mind spinning with ways I could use these around the house. Cookbook display? Art miniatures? Plate wall? So many options!

The summer break from school used to mean that my girls were not as dedicated to reading. But there’s so much merit in getting your kids into books that are fun. It helps help them develop a lifelong love of books. One of my kids was struggling with finding joy in reading…until she discovered the Harry Potter series. She’s been a bookworm ever since!
It’s so fun seeing my girls read books that I loved as a kid as well. Although, let’s face it, I may go back and read some of these myself. The Secret Garden was iconic! Some of these may have outdated messages that need to be talked through with kids (thinking about The Little House on the Prairie for example.) Even more reason for you to revisit some of your favorites to have a critical discussion!

What favorites from your childhood would you put on these book ledges? It’s so fun to walk down memory lane and remember!

This brings back memories! My kids loved the Magic Treehouse series and The Adventures of Wishbone series of books.
I totally recommend the Ivy and Bean book series – more for the 6-9 year old age range but great for the parent reading aloud – neighborhood adventures and creative messes these girls get in to!
My 3.5yo LOVES books. Like, he has two full-size bookshelfs in his room and owns close to 700 books! He likes everything from board books to short chapter books. He’s very patient and remembers the plot. Some of our favorites are Scooby Doo, Julia Donaldson books, Dr Suess, Arthur, It’s a Small World Disney travel series (so well done!), and classic fairytales.
Oh my gosh! Sounds like he’ll have a love of it for life.
CS Lewis! Like the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe! Great discussion book!
One of my favorites!
