(Not-So-Scary) Halloween Decor to Last Year After Year

September 11, 2023

I know it might feel like it's too early to be decorating for Halloween, but actually, Halloween decor is selling out so quickly, and I don't want you to miss out. Finding "spooky" decor that blends in with your already-lovely home aesthetic, rather than masks, is trickier said than done. So, I thought it would be fun to show you how to create Halloween moments with some not-so-scary decor. Starting with the front door...

Hang a Haunted Wreath

Halloween Wreath

I have it on record that I don't like wreaths (except for Christmastime). This is more of a personal preference than me dictating what you should or shouldn't hang on your door. But... when I saw this Halloween wreath with tangled twigs and bats, I couldn't help myself. Don't expect me to hang a new wreath for each season, but hanging a spooky wreath is an excellent way to transition the front porch from fall to Halloween.

Pumpkins All Season Long

Pumpkins double as fall and Halloween decor, and if you stock up on faux pumpkins, they'll last you from September through November. Of course, you can't go wrong with carving jack-o-lanterns, but that's one of my least favorite activities. Anybody else?

Focus on The Mantle

Shop the haunted living room

Rather than re-decorating your entire living room, you can spookify the mantle with some ghostly garland and drippy tapered candles. Orange and black are a classic Halloween choice, but all black would be even more moody.

Ghost Garland | Gold Candlesticks | Aged Brass Candlesticks | Orange Tapers | Black Tapers | Mirror | Framed Art

Now, if you look really closely, you might be able to spot some bats drawn on the picture frame glass with an expo marker. This is such a simple, free way to make any framed art haunted, and the good news is it's not permanent!

Swap Your Frame TV Art

Shop the spooky bonus room

Swapping your Frame TV art is the quickest, most cost-effective way to keep up with seasonal and holiday decor. How cute are these ghost portraits? (Tip: Most smart TVs have the capability to display art nowadays, so check your options even if you don’t have the official Frame TV). I'm obsessed with all the haunted art below.

  1. Trick or Treat Spooky TV Art $2
  2. Autumn Country Meadow Landscape Painting $2

Before & After: A Laundry Room Into A Mudroom

Well fam, we made it. We're finally here! The mudroom is officially done. I looked back at the very first post about transforming this space, and it was one year ago, almost to the day. On the one hand, I feel a little deflated that it took us a year. And on the other hand, […]

Crab Cakes with Easy Remoulade Sauce (Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free)

I love ordering crab cakes out—they're such a treat. But if I want to make crab cakes at home, they need to cater to our food restrictions. That means they have to be delicious AND have no eggs, dairy, wheat, gluten or grains. Well these knock it out of the park, thanks to some secret […]

The Best of August 2024

August is my unofficial start of autumn — I don't believe in separating seasons, or holidays, for that matter. I prefer to squeeze every ounce of joy I feel from the day, whether that is a sunny beach day (which is how we started the month!) or a cool early fall walk with Cricket and […]

My Favorite Fall Stems This Year

I love fall faux stems. It's funny how it feels a lot more acceptable for stems to be faux in the fall! I guess in the summer you can grow your flowers and cut things from the yard or buy some at the market. In the fall — at least in North Carolina — we’re […]
