A Simple, Little Gadget that Changed our Lives + A simplehuman giveaway!

December 6, 2016

This post is sponsored by simplehuman.

Chris has always been hyper-aware of cross-contamination in the kitchen. He wears gloves when handling raw meat. We have a touch faucet so he can turn on the water--with his elbow!--and we now have a sensor soap dispenser from simplehuman. (We love it so much, at the end of the post we're giving one away!)

While Chris does the cooking around here, I can't tell you how many times the girls or I have been covered in stickiness or germs from school or paint or some other crafty mess that got transferred onto the soap dispenser to live until it was sanitized. Or how many times Chris has said, "Jules, can you squirt some soap in my hands" after handling raw chicken. A hands-free soap dispenser makes so. much. sense.

I love the sleek, but discreet dispenser--it fits so well next to the sink and the soap is rich, luxurious and foamy--the girls' favorite. The dispenser works with a wide range of soaps and scents from simplehuman hand and dish soap, to hand soap from other great brands like EO and ARIA by Antica Farmacista that run from $7-$15. And instead of messy refills, the cartridges easily click into place.

And the icing on the cake? It's rechargeable (no batteries!) *cue hallelujah chorus*, can still be rinsed in the sink, and one charge lasts about 3 months.

A lot of times, we focus on big things we did that drastically changed our home or improved our lives. It's refreshing to share with you a small thing that did that for us, too.

You can purchase the dispenser and soaps here. And we're giving one away, too! Enter below.

  1. Since I have a deep love for all things grapefruit (cologne! candy! all the grapefruit things!), the grapefruit soap looks amazing! Would love to try this handy little gadget.

  2. Lavender is my favorite. How long have you had this? I love the design of SimpleHuman and have invested in their products several times hoping they'd last. Been a bit disappointed.

  3. Lavender everything!

We're in the middle of building a house and this bad boy would look beautiful in our new kitchen.

  4. I've always wanted to try an auto soap dispenser! I bet the EO Peppermint & Tea Tree smells wonderful.

  5. This is so smart! My fiance would love this! He's the cook in our house too and is equally as obsessed with cross contamination as it sounds like Chris is!

  6. I want one of these. I've added it to my Christmas list for all those people who haven't finished their Christmas shopping. I'm a BIG grapefruit fan, I would like that in my kitchen.

  7. Is it bad that I want two?!? One for hand soap and one for dish soap. The Bergamot hand soap sounds like a nice hand soap to try.

  8. This is such a smart idea. I'm a nurse and where I work the pump of the hand sanitizer is one of the first things I clean each morning. I imagine they get so germy!

  9. This would be so great in a bathroom, too! The less touching the better! Grapefruit scent in the kitchen always smells good to me, and lavender for the bath.

  10. This changed your life? A soap dispenser changed your life? WTF. That is so stupid.

A $60 soap dispenser with $7 soap , so almost $70 for soap???..... Instead of $15 for a manual soap dispenser.

  11. I would love to try the EO peppermint and tea tree soap. This soap dispenser looks perfect for me. I am a germ freak!

  12. This thing is AMAZING!! Seriously, we need one of these, especially the dish soap dispenser. I am putting it on my Christmas wish list! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Sooooooooooo many delicious soap flavors to chose from ! But I think I would love the "Mandarin Orange".

  14. We had one of Simplehumans' older model for the longest time and loved it! It broke a few months ago and we just haven't found the chance to replace it. It would be great to try out their latest and greatest. They're so innovative!
Love to Try the Grapefruit one. :)

  15. I was literally just thinking if there is something like this on the market after I washed my hands a bajillion times making chicken the other night and hating touching the soap dispenser AGAIN. Germaphobe dream!

  16. It's so hard to pick just one! French lavender because it's so calming and serene. Peppermint and tea tree sounds sooo nourishing. Or grapefruit because it's invigorating!

  17. I am the biggest germaphobe...kuds with immune disorders and hospital scares have gor this mom a sanitizING junky. This would be life changing. Especially in fragrance free (allergy issues too:(

  18. I have the older soap dispenser with the batteries, and it has been awesome. It would be even more wonderful to have a rechargeable one!

  19. Hi, I would love to try the spring water Simply Human fragrance but probably need to go with the fragrance free because some scents give me a reaction on my hands. Would love to try this out! Thanks for the chance to win.

  20. I would love one of these! We have food allergies in the house and I am constantly worries about contaminating my allergic daughter through touching food that the other kids are allowed. Plus, grapefruit is my favorite fresh scent!

  21. Lavender or peppermint are my default choices but love to switch it up with a special soap every once in a while seasonal like the bergamot. I'd love to see a orange spice soap ☺. The rechargeable battery might have sold me on this thing. I hate to throw away batteries and were switching to rechargeable for everything we can. It's even more convenient when we can recharge just by plugging it in.

  22. Great idea! Though I have invisible hands, lots of sensor dispensers don't work for me for some reason, so I am interested if this one would work well.

  23. I automatically gravitate toward anything lavender. In a house of all boys, anything soothing sounds wonderful! I also think that grapefruit would be worth a try.

  24. This is awesome! I'm Always so worried about germs transferring but so often the sensor dispensers are tacky!
This is a beautiful option and the mint lime sounds so perfect for this season!!
    LOVE your blog

  25. We have chickens and whenever I deal with something particularly dirty I always wish someone was there to squirt soap for me. I'd love this!

  26. I would love to try the grapefruit! ❤️ I've been wanting one of these for our kitchen. I love all simple human gadgets, we have a garbage can from there and it's amazing!

  27. This soap dispenser looks great on the counter and is so easy to use, there's no excuse not to wash your hands thoroughly. I'd love to have one.

  28. I am sooooooo with you on the "hey squirt me some soap" post chicken handling!!! I would love to try the mandarin orange soap!

  29. What a great concept and they look beautiful sitting on your counter! My husband is always asking me to soap his hands when he is handling meat and to prevent cross contamination (my son has life threatening food allergies...so we we are always washing our hands!) Those soaps look amazing too!

  30. This is ah-mazing. I can't tell you how many times I touch the kitchen faucet and groan from whatever is stuck to it. Genius product!

  31. Oh this is going on the Christmas list right now. I like lavender but for the kitchen perhaps cucumber would be better.

  32. this is such a good idea and THERE'S A GERANIUM SCENTED ONE :-O i love geranium and am always wishing more things came in geranium scent

  33. This is interesting, I haven't seen anything like this. I went to the website and it looks like they do dish soap as well, which is what I would prefer to use it for.

  34. I love this idea! Why have a touchless faucet and not a soap dispenser?! The lavender scent sounds heavenly.

  35. Is this how I enter to win? I sure hope so because we need this and there is no way I can afford to buy one right now. Love this gadget and love your home!!

  36. This is such a great idea! I always have stuff all over my hands and get it everywhere while trying to clean up! I also need to look into the faucet...

  37. Oh man, I could have used one of these while baking up a storm last weekend. And Orange Blossom??? Yes, please!

  38. This seems like it would work well in the kids bathroom as well. I have toddlers who sometimes struggle pumping their own soap into their hands. :) And my favorite scent for everything is always lavender.

  39. Recently got a couple of simple human trash cans for our kitchen and bathroom and am in love. I would love to try the EO peppermint & tea tree, mint lime, and spring water soaps!

  40. As someone who lives alone this would be great. I'm constantly washing off my soap dispenser because I don't have anyone to help give a squirt.

I'd love to try the EO peppermint & tea tree oil foaming soap. Mmm

  41. This sounds exactly like my husband!! He would love to use this in the kitchen! (the technology aspect is definitely a bonus for him too!)

  42. I love this idea..raw chicken grosses me out so much and I'm always trying to avoid touching anything with the germs on my hands! I don't use gloves, so this would be great for our household

  43. I had to chuckle just a teensy bit. I was a microbiologist before my kids and I am constantly amazed at how much people freak out over germs. I would caution everyone about trying to be as germ free as possible because it actually leads to humans being sicker because they aren't being exposed as much to germs. We don't use hand sanitizer or wipe our carts ever. Just practice good hand washing, and while the soap dispenser isn't a bad idea, it's okay to use the pump with dirty hands, just rinse it off. Same goes with the faucet handle. And for the love of all things, don't touch your face, especially your mouth or nose. That would solve a lot of problems by itself.

  44. Wash, rinse and sanitize was the motto I grew up with in the restaurant business. Have never forgot it after 35 years. I know this little dispenser would make it way easier in the kitchen for everyone. Now I need that faucet.

  45. Cute product but I just squirt the soap onto one hand with the press of my forearm when my hands are dirty. I do like that Chris wears gloves though, & picked up that tip from him and no more raw meat under my fingernails now!

  46. I truly love everything you guys do, but this dispenser feels like another task....like another thing I have to charge. :( I also think the insert is adding to the waste problem like the K-cups plastic cups. It's definitely personal preference, but we bought a target silver dispenser and continue to fill it with a bulk size container of soap refill. I do love that it's hands free!!!!

    1. Totally get your point of view. For us, it's a lot LESS tasks. Less pumping soap for each other. Less sanitizing soap dispensers. Less germs.

  47. I have contemplated getting an auto soap dispenser for a long time but spending that amount of money makes me cringe ? I like have to make the leap. The charging capability has me sold!

    1. If you're concerned about price, I use another Simplehuman auto soap dispenser purchased for around $30. I love it because you can refill it with any liquid soap. There's no need for the pods.

  48. Ha! I was raised OCD with germs...a mother nurse and a father dentist so I used to spray lysol on the doorknobs of the entire dorm hallway if I heard someone cough during that day. (I have come a long way...I only have lysol wipes and only do the doorknobs a few times a year.) I used to use rubber gloves and gag my way through raw meat handling with Vicks Vapo rub smeared under my nose and singing Jingle Bells year round to keep from gagging. Even my kids will join in to distract me as needed, but I have, for the most part even ditched the gloves and Vicks. I still, however, wash my spatula or wooden spoon between each stir of meat or flip of bacon until it is fully cooked and I wash my hands countless times when dealing with raw meat...and always a child is called over to squirt the soap. Once when nobody was present, I tried to turn the faucet on with my foot (success) and squirt soap with my other elbow (epic fail as I shot the whole container across the floor.). I still immediately scrub the sink after containers with raw meat juice (turkeys, etc.) are rinsed down. What a brilliant idea this soap dispenser is!

  49. We have a Simplehuman dispenser as well and absolutely love it! We have the one that dispenses the regular soap and does require batteries, but the batteries seem to last about three months as well. At first my husband thought it was silly and a waste of money, it's soap. But he has totally seen the benefits that you spoke of and is totally on board! There's no more gunk on the soap handle, no more sanitizing that as well, and it just.makes.sense to have one in the kitchen. Whoever wins one will love it! And if you don't win, seriously, go get one!

  50. Well that's a smart idea! I've been looking for cute soap dispensers lately but the practicality of this might just win out.

    Thanks for the info.

  51. Oh my goodness. I can't tell you how many times a week I wish that I had something like this! I'm constantly asking someone to squirt soap into my hands, too, and it's incredibly frustrating. This is ingenious. Love it!
