It was during our long road trip to Lake Tahoe over the fourth of July, and all the car messes 3 little girls can make, and sitting on crumbs as I moved from chair to chair trying to keep everyone happy, that I announced, "As soon as we get home, I'm ordering one of those handheld vacuums to keep in this car!" And as soon as we got home, I started researching all the options. What did we do before online reviews anyway?
I narrowed in on the Dyson V6 Trigger handheld Vacuum. It had thousands of really great reviews, came with tons of attachments, had a washable filter, and easy canister to dump and so much more. However, I didn't want to pay $200! Did you know that Dyson has an outlet on eBay?!
I've always used eBay to search for vintage rugs and art, and you know I always search there for coupons before making any big purchases. But now they are becoming my go-to for new, quality items at unbeatable prices. They have both seller reviews and product ratings that give me all the confidence I need that the product I want and see is what I'm actually going to get and be happy with.
I snagged one of the Dyson DC58 handheld vacuums I had been eyeing for almost half off and spoiler, it didn't stay in the car. It started there, but then I realized how handy it would be to vacuum off furniture (including our outdoor furniture that gets debris on it if we leave it uncovered)...
...I vacuumed out all the drawers in the kitchen. The big appliance drawer that we tuck the toaster in always gathers crumbs...
I took it to the stairs, which is always the most intimidating vacuuming job for me--lugging the vacuum up and down or trying to balance it on a stair, and a baby on my hip. This was a cinch! The handheld Dyson even has a button where you can max out the suction and really get deep into carpet fibers--this was perfect for that post-roadtrip car clean out.
Here are some more can't-miss Dyson deals on eBay if you are looking for a new toy ;) !

I am a bit torn on these - the convenience for spot cleaning is great, but the dusty (and the rest) emptying is always a real turn-off. How much of an issue have you found this to be? - I can see me spending all the saved minutes cleaning the thing itself!
A lot of times I'll empty our large Dyson outside for that very reason, but this small one usually isn't full enough for it to be much of an issue. Especially given how well it works.
I was more excited to hear that you went to Lake Tahoe. We live and Reno and enjoy that beautiful lake on a regular basis. Happy vacuuming.
Thanks for this timely post as I was in the market for a new handheld vacuum. I went to eBay and put the vacuum in my cart this morning and then went about my day thinking I'd get around to placing the order. I checked my email this afternoon and found an eBay coupon good for just today, expiring at 10 pm PT for 15% off everything! The code is PRONTO15. Glad I waited to order!
Thanks for the heads up... just used the coupon to get the vacuum after seeing your comment :)
I left my dogs sit on the sofa and bought a "powerful" dust buster to grab the dog hair when I forget to lay their blanket out. Yeah, a bust it was. Is this powerful enough to handle dog hair stuck to sofa fabric? Also, I'll look it up, but do you charge this or does it run on batteries?
It plugs in.
We have a 3,600 foot house and the Dyson v6 is the only vacuum we own. Once you have it, you'll never want to go back. It's so light that my four year old is learning to use it by herself!
It says the Dysons on EBay are refurbished... what exactly does that mean?
I haven't bought a refurbished Dyson, but we do have some refurbished shop tools, so granted, it's a different company, but our refurbished tools work and look great! I think it typically means it was sold new and broke while under warranty and was returned to the manufacturer who repaired it, tested it, and is reselling it at a reduced cost. Our tools came looking new but do have a "refurb" stamp engraved into the plastic. Not sure if Dyson would add the same, but if that bothers you- best to fork over the extra money for a new one.
We use our handheld vacuum SO much. I only get our big vacuum out to vacuum the floors -- everything else I now use my handheld for! Car seats, high chair, crumbs in the couch, messes on the floor...it's just so much easier. Ours recently died from overuse so I'm going to have to check out the Dyson version!
