Gallery walls have definitely had their moment in the sun — and we still love them. But if you’re looking for a smaller — dare I say charming — way to display family photos, there’s another option worth considering: the tabletop gallery.

A tabletop gallery is exactly what it sounds like — an intentional collection of framed photos styled on a console, dresser, side table, piano, or even a bookshelf. Instead of committing to nails and precise spacing on the wall, you create a layered moment using frames that can be easily moved, swapped, and refreshed as your family grows. It has that collected, lived-in quality that reminds us of a Nancy Meyers movie set.

It’s also incredibly flexible. Start with a few frames in varying sizes — nothing too matchy. A mix of wood, brass, silver, or simple black frames keeps things feeling relaxed and layered rather than overly styled. Lean the largest frame in the back, then overlap smaller ones in front to create depth.

As for the photos you choose, try to keep them in a similar tone or color palette so the collection feels cohesive and balanced. You can mix in black-and-white photos (as shown above) or keep things simple with all black and white. We especially love layering in a mix of current photos alongside vintage family photos. When new photos come along or your space changes, you can easily swap pieces in and out and add frames to your collection. (Pro tip: Keep an album in your phone of photos to print.)

Let this little vignette that grow naturally over time. A tabletop gallery is exactly that: simple, personal, and full of stories.
