I loved seeing fresh takes on Western wear. It goes to show there's room for fashion in every aesthetic. Recently I saw this funny interview with Brett Goldstein of Ted Lasso fame. He said he recently went to Texas for the first time (he's English if you're unaware), put on a cowboy hat and immediately that became his whole personality. Why is that so accurate?? :) While we lived in Idaho for 15 years, the furthest I dabbled in western wear was the "Canadian Tuxedo," which is just a denim-on-denim look. And it happens to be my go-to look if I'm every at a loss for what to wear. It's so chic and simple and casual, yet elevated.
What I'm calling the Canadian Cowboy aesthetic is a little more practical and reserved, a little more workwear-inspired with that sophisticated equestrian flair.
I wanted to put my moody modern traditional spin on this look, so I've put together this fun inspo mood board! A tonal denim button-down with jeans. That might be my favorite look I own! This is the time of year I'm going through my closet to hone in on what I like (sharing more about my personal "style" journey soon—stay tuned). The pieces in this mood board I see complementing what I already have. Or in some cases—they are already in my house. Hello, beautiful leather chairs and boots!
If you're ready to stirrup some style (couldn't help myself), here's where I'd start with the Canadian Cowboy look:
Myrrh and Tonka Cologne | Dogs Print | Custom Brass Door Plaque | Equestrian Prints | Brass Horse Hook | Plaid Fabric | Cinched Denim Jacket | 90s Western Jeans | Suede Jacket | Tall Western Boots | Matte Lipstick in "Equestrian" | Melamine Dinner Plates | Horse Bookends | Leather Belt | Leather Chair | Suede and Metal Table Lamp | Chelsea Boot
Also in my style series, check out my take on the fisherman aesthetic and the vintage Ralph Lauren look.
As a Canadian Cowgirl, literally, I grew up on a cattle ranch in Western Canada, I like this roundup (pun intended).
