Greta is turning 15 in just a few days, and it feels like the perfect time for the reveal of her teen room makeover!

When we moved into this house, we replaced the floors and painted her room, but didn't really do much other than that. She’s growing up, and she wanted to have a bedroom that felt more teen-friendly. When she gave me permission to take over the design—I was honored! It's honestly not a given that your 14-year-old daughter will be happy about something like that. But she is, and it's so gratifying for someone who loves to design our home!
It's taken most of a year to get it all put together, but now, her room has become one of everyone’s favorite rooms in the house! It has amazing light; it’s so moody at night. It’s the biggest, sweetest, moody vibe!
All About the Wallpaper, Trim, & Ceiling

We first painted the room a light pink color that she liked when we moved in. But it didn't quite suit her tastes as she got older. Greta's bedroom is large, so we were able to put a really rich color on the walls with this crimson wallpaper, and it didn't feel too intense. I chose a contrast trim (Sherwin Williams Riverway) in a totally different paint color from the wallpaper pattern—it makes the room really pop!
Her ceiling was originally painted the color of the trim, and I then painted it back to white, because I really wanted to have a tone-on-tone moment with the white plaster ceiling fixture.

Swapping Out Bedroom Furniture
This room accidentally became a really big showcase of a lot of our Pottery Barn collection! The bed—oh my goodness, it's incredible—features a beautiful, timeless navy stripe on the upholstered bed frame. Hers is a queen size but it also comes in king size.
She previously had an old desk from Facebook Marketplace in her room that was one of those deceptive photos: After I picked it up, I realized it was vanity-sized, so it was pretty small. We got her a new desk from our line with Pottery Barn. This one still serves as a vanity but is more desk-sized and is flanked by bookcases from our collection so it really fills out the wall. She does her homework and art at the vanity—it's something she really uses a lot!

Even though the furniture along this wall is black, they don't feel like heavy pieces because of the open framing. Greta has a lot of books that I’m putting on there, but it’s also great for art, decor, and storage with some closed felt bins. If I were going to add anything else, you know I could always get behind some hard-wired sconces on either side of the mirror here.

Adding New (and Old) Wall Art
It was amazing—once we added the art to her room, it just felt like, "Oh, this room is finished." Which just goes to show the impact of art! The first piece we added was the horse above her bed. That picture is something that we did a DIY frame for several years ago. It was really easy: We had the image printed on a canvas, and then made the frame. It's been hers ever since!

Above her dresser, we put these four big moth paintings from Anthropologie. They are larger than they look in photos. And it is so impactful in her room. Just cool enough and weird enough for her to love them.

I think everyone remembers their childhood bedroom, and then their teen bedroom...and I'm so honored and excited for this bedroom to be a part of Greta's memories for life.

Love the room! I have been looking at this bed for my daughter’s room and have a question about the mattress. Did you use a box spring? If not, how tall is your mattress?
If my room looked like this when I was a teenager, I would have never left home. What a beautiful space no matter what age you are!
This developed into a beautiful bedroom! Everything about it is age appropriate with unique touches.
