A Recap of October + My Favorite Things From the Month

October 31, 2023

Happy Halloween! Tonight, we're looking forward to taking the girls trick-or-treating and then boom. Thanksgiving is in just a few weeks, followed by Christmas. How?? Is anybody else feeling the busyness of the holiday season rolling in? But before we look too far ahead, let's take a look back at some highlights from the month, starting with celebrating Chris's 40th birthday. To celebrate, we took a trip to Mexico along with two of Chris's brothers and their wives and had the best time. Immediately following, we flew directly to Salt Lake City to shoot photos for our next Loloi rug launch, coming in early 2024! Unfortunately, there's not much to show in the mudroom, but we did have some time to share updates in both Greta's room and our bedroom. We finally launched the much anticipated Lola Blanket Collection, and last, but not least, we put together this Holiday Shoppe as a resource for you to use this Holiday season. It's so sooooo good.

Other highlights from the month

Marianne of W Design Collective was kind enough to let us style and shoot our new rug collection in her gorgeous home. Of course, I had to snap a photo of her drop-dead gorgeous powder bathroom. I cannot wait to show you these new rugs we have coming soon!

This was our very first time using a travel agent for a trip, and it was the most stress-free trip we had. Well, Chris did get super dehydrated and sick at the end, but besides that, it was easy-breezy. We used Wagner Bespoke, and she planned our days exactly the way they should have been. Plus, there were extra perks we wouldn't have even known about if we had planned it ourselves. Highly recommend!

Happy 40th Chris!

I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of carving pumpkins (is anybody?) But Chris made it as enjoyable and mess-free as possible with gloves, carving tools, and inside-out trash bags for easy clean-up.

My Favorite Things From October

Each month, there are always a few stand-outs from the crowd, and I think you'll like the October line-up! There's certainly something here for everyone.

1. Studio McGee Pura- Cardamom Blossom

This is my current favorite Pura scent! I included it as one of my favorite Fall scents, but I'll be using it through Christmas (and probably year-round.

2. 7.5' Green Spruce Christmas Tree

This tree has followed us all the way from Rexburg, and it's still a favorite of mine, and apparently yours, because you sell it out almost every year.

3. Cropped Sherpa Jacket

I've been wearing this on repeat since I snagged it from the Abercrombie sale this summer. Having multiple sherpa jackets to wear when it's cold is a must.

4. Helix Paper Cutter

When we tested gift wrap cutters, this was the winner that took the cake! Cuts like butter and is so simple to use.

5. Reformation- Fantino Cashmere Cardigan

My assigned stylist for our Loloi shoot picked out this cashmere cardigan for me to wear, and it was absolutely incredible. I wanted to pack it in my suitcase and bring it home with me! If you want to splurge on the most incredible cardigan, this is it.

6. Boll & Branch- Waffle Bed Blanket

I cannot rave about this waffle blanket enough. We keep it on our bed at all times of the year, but it's especially nice as the weather gets cooler. See it in Anatomy of Making a Bed!

7. Sagrada

This has quickly become the new family favorite game in our house. I'm such a sucker for an aesthetically well-designed game, and this is that, plus it's easy to learn and fun to play!

8. Neats Nipple Covers

I don't love the annoying pads that come in workout tops, and these have been my fav substitutes recently! They're reusable, discreet, and totally do the trick when you want to go braless.

9. Hearth & Hand- Fabric Gift Tags

I snatched these reusable fabric tags up in my Target pickup order, and I'm completely smitten. Can't wait to use them on presents this year.

10. New Balance- 9060 Cherry Blossom

I love a chunky sneaker, and this colorway is really scratching an itch for me.

11. 52 Modern Manners for Kids

We've been doing these modern manners with our kids at the dinner table. Each week, there's a focus on topics like "wait for your turn to talk" and "be a problem solver." It's all the things you hope your kids learn, but without the nagging.

12. Chris Loves Julia x Lola Blanket

Of course, one of the most exciting thngs to happen this month was the launch of our Lola Blanket collection! We lovingly call the two colors Raisin and Lakefront and they would make the perfect gifts this holiday season.

13. Madewell- Chunky Medium Hoop Earring

Okay, I've always been a gold girl, but lately I've been loving the look of white gold jewelry. Aren't these hoops so pretty?

14. Kraft Wrapping Paper Roll

One thing about me is I love taking the time to make the presents under the tree pretty. I've got my eye on this royal blue color, paired with some monochromatic velvet ribbon. To die for.

15. Anthropologie- Pieced Stripe Curtain

Hanging these curtains in Greta's room really completed the space! If you're looking for more curtain ideas, check out this post on When to Use Curtains vs. Shades.

16. Studio McGee Mantle Hanging

Year after year I've strung this on the mantle beause it's just too good! This is one of those pieces that will never go out of style.

30 Faux Spring Stems I'm Eyeing for My Home

When everything outside is still brown, I love to switch over to spring stems indoors. The best part is that spring stems will last until September, when I switch over to fall stems! I always have some classic green hydrangeas in a vase this time of year. Right now, they're in an oversized vase in […]

How to Throw a Murder Mystery Party for Teens (or Adults!)

Several years ago, I hosted a murder mystery party for some adult friends, but thinking back it was kind of a blur. Chris was getting over pneumonia! I do remember it being a fun way to dress up and spend the evening—everyone had a blast. So when Greta decided for her 15th birthday party that […]
